The end of 2021 held many health challenges for our goat herd. We lost multiple kids and one of our Boer moms due primarily to worm load. We made some management changes and decided to hold off breeding the herd until we could give some straggling Boer moms time to recover and improve their body condition. This pushed the breeding of our experienced moms simultaneous with the new yearling does mid-Jan 22.
However, we did have one new mom that we opted to go ahead and breed. We bread this mom to our Lamancha/Boer billy to see how the genetics would perform and to see if the mom would have any issues with kidding since she was on the smaller size. On the 29th of Jan, she decided to download two cute little bucklings with a combined weight of 9.4lbs. We are going to keep an eye on these two to see how the genetics play out but we are happy to have new life on the ranch as we turn the corner and head into spring.
